fishbone is right. We used Sevin on the perimeter of our yard, and then use cedar chips in the dog kennel and our flea problem evaporated. You need to treat the house too. Also as preventative maintenance use Advantage or one of those systemic dog flea treatments–they’re good for a month.
This is what I do. Get yourself a hose end sprayer. You will find at any place that sells lawn and garden supplies. Get a bottle of malathion. Fill up the sprayer per instructions. Spray everything. Spray down your property. Presto. No more fleas.
Have you tried seven dust. It works on yards and on your dogs.
1. Keep your dogs inside for a few days and treat them for fleas.
2. Invite all the other dogs in the neighborhood over for lunch.
3. Place bowls of food in various spots all over the lawn.
When the other dogs come to eat the fleas will jump on them. Then, after they depart, your yard will be flea-free.

Peppermint and Eucalyptus & many plants & herbs are a natural flea control & makes an excellent non-toxic shampoo. Lemon juice made into a spray and used across the door sill can deter many a flea from entering. Biologic control using the beneficial nematode Steinernema carpocapsa is based on the fact that these nematodes parasitise the flea (and other insects) larvae and result in their destruction. The nematodes are applied as a spray to the ground. Application of the nematodes must be periodically repeated & is best suited for situations where the pet spends a high percentage of time outdoors & it’s applied to shaded areas & would only be one part of a larger flea control program. P.S.(Pennyroyal kills fleas, but be careful. Pennyroyal, Rue & Wormwood & some UNDILUTED essential oils may be too risky to use directly on pets & some pets have an adverse reaction even to Rosemary.)
ORANGE, GRAPEFRUIT, LEMON & LIME OILS – derived from the peels of these citrus fruits, contain d-Limonene, which is lethal to fleas is safe for dogs.

One always has to remember that when you treat the areas where there are fleas that they have left lots of eggs behind. You probably will have to treat those areas every 10 days for awhile until they are all gone.
