I feel your pain. I have a cat that is allergic to fleas, poor baby. 🙁
Bomb your house. Take the family out for a day at the beach and put your cats up for a day at the cat hotel. After using a flea bomb use a topical flea powder or liquid religiously! Our vet recommended that we use advantage or frontline starting a month before the flea season until a month after. I have never heard about the worm thing but I will definitely look into it now! 🙂
Also, your house does NOT have to be a mess to have fleas.
    GOOD LUCK!

Cats don’t get worms from *eating* fleas; they get worms because the fleas carry the eggs or larvae and they are injected when the fleas bite the cat.
To get rid of the fleas in your house, you’re probably going to have to use a “bug-bomb” in each room. This is the fogger type spray that you set off and then leave. Obviously, you want to take your cats along, remove or protect plants, and turn off and cover fish tanks. Be sure to get flea bombs that kill eggs as well as adults; otherwise, you’ll just have to do it all over again in three weeks when the eggs hatch.
In addition to the flea bomb, you’ll need to vacuum all your upholstered furniture, and carpets, and DISCARD THE BAG OUTDOORS when you are done. Also change the bedding on all beds and any sofa-beds or similar furniture and wash that.
I had to go through this when I moved to an apartment about 2 years ago, and the management had not had the carpet cleaners include flea-killer in their carpet cleaning. I moved again just about six weeks ago, and set off flea bombs before I moved ANYTHING into the new place! Good luck 🙂

The worm you read about is called a tapeworm. Fleas can carry this worm, but not all fleas do. If your cat has tapeworms you will see them in the stool. They look like grains of rice (about the same size and flat). These worms are generally nonpathogenic meaning that they dont cause many problems in animals like other intestinal parasites do. Of course, if you see these worms you need to get your cat treated for her own health. Breaking the flea cycle is really the only way to prevent her from getting tapeworms- feel free to read up on them, their scientific name is dipylidium caninum.
And referring to the comment above mine, cats dont volunarily eat fleas, they pick them up while grooming themselves and swallow them, and yes fleas can carry tapeworms.

First of all chances are your cats aren’t eating the fleas and I don’t know where you heard that they’ll get worms if they eat fleas but it’s not true.

It’s not definite, but cats are very likely to pick up tapeworm from fleas. Consult with your vet about treating the house itself, and check if there might be other critters (like squirrels or mice) getting into the house and replenishing the fleas. If you have an infestation in the house, it may take 3 months of consistent flea treatment to get rid of them all. Good luck!

You need to fog your house or have an exterminator come do it. The fleas are nesting in your bedding and carpets and stuff and will remain a problem until they and their eggs are dead. Keep using the Frontline. It’s great! Yes, they get worms from eating fleas. Have your vet give a dose of Drontal for worming. It kills all worms. About $7 a pill at my vet.

The best thing to do is consult your vet. I’ve used Revolution for several years now and have had no problems with fleas. The vet will be able to help you get rid of the fleas on the cats and in your house.

Fleas are a huge problem in the summer time. You can bomb your house (flea bomb) to help with the flea issues. Read the can. I know you have to bee out of the house for X amount of hours. Call pest control, maybe they can help. Vacuum, Vacuum, Vacuum your floors!!! This will help suck up those little buggers. Continue to flea them monthly. Call up the vet and see if dipping the cats is a good choice for you.
Your cat has a chance of getting worms if they eat fleas. But you can tell if your cat has worms. You will see this little yellow looking things (the first time I saw it I thought my cat was having bladder issues because it is almost the color of urine and they are oval shaped… very small) and you will see them all over the place where your cat lays down the most. My cat liked my bed. I did not have a flea issue either and my cat got worms.
Hopes this helps. Fleas are a pain in the butt to get rid of…
