I’ve had to deal with this several times.
Sprinkle your carpet and soft furniture with borax and let it sit about 20 minutes or so. Then vacuum it up: That will kill the fleas that are already hoppping around. Keep vacuuming every day for at least 2 week so you can get the new fleas that have hatched.
After that, you should be flea-free.
Good luck!
Use Borax in powder form ( 20 Mule Team Borax in the laundry aisle at the store). Sprinkle it over your carpet using a sieve or strainer and work it into the carpeting using a broom or carpet rake. Also sprinkle it onto your couch cushions, etc, anywhere the cat might have been. You can leave it for a couple of days and then vacuum. This should take of the problem. Keep children and pets away from the area as pets that groom themselves ( such as cats ) may ingest the Borax and this is not good. Not good for the kids to ingest, either 🙂
One way that works, without using chemicals, is to put a bowl of water on the carpet with a lamp hanging over the bowl (ideally when you have gone to bed and there is no chance someone will knock the lamp or bowl over). The fleas will be attracted to light/heat and land in the water and drown. it sounds weird but it works. Good luck.
we had that problem when we moved into the apt we are in now, we called a local cleaning service told them the problem and they had the solution and even came over and took care of it for us, it only cost us 15.00 an hour and only took them alittle under an hour….pretty cheap way and haven’t had fleas since.
I agree w/ Tigger, A vet told me to sprinkle boraxo on carpet overnight, it dries out the eggs and kills them. Leaves the carpet fresh too.
An addition to everyone else’s comment if you are a do-it-yourselfer… AFTER you vacuum take the bag out of your house… fleas can hatch while in the vacuum cleaner bag even after afew months or less…
I sprayed a can of pet’s flea spray….Hartz I think….worked wonderfully. It doesn’t hurt the animals so it doesn’t hurt anything else
