I have 2 cats and 1 of them just had a kitten. I let the momma cat outside one time, other than this they have never been out. now all the cats have terrible fleas. the vet said the only thing i could do for the kitten was to wash it in dawn diswash liquid but this still doesnt get rid of the fleas. As for the adult cats ive tried using the Hartz flea liquid tubes that you squeeze out between their shoulder blades and sergents flea powder but they still have the fleas. I’m worried that they are spreading them around my house. I’m having a baby in 3 weeks so i need to get this taken care of. I’m giving the momma cat and the kitten away so ill still have one adult . What should i to get this mess taken care of quick. Also I havent seen anything on my blankets but if for some reason they are there can washing them in the washer clean them or do i need to do somethng special for laundry too?
Take the cats to the groomer and have them flea dipped. Then buy some Frontline or Advantage. Here is a good site to order it from: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/Na…
I have tried the cheaper brands and they didn’t work as well.
It is relatively cheap. Or you can go to your vets and get it. My vet will sometime break the backage and give me the amoung I need for my 2 cats instead of making me buy the entire package. Maybe yours will do that to. The good thing about it is that it will kill fleas that it comes into contact with. We had a minor flea problem awhile back and it got rid of the fleas wherever the cats were (sofa, chair etc.)
If your problem is that bad you might try some over the counter products to spray on your furniture and carpets or have a professional exterminator come out.
I feel for you. It’s not a fun time especially if you have a baby coming.
Good luck to you. 🙂
First of all you need to contain these cats in one room. then buy some STRONG, flea shampoo, but FIRST make sure there is nothing in this room except the cats so the fleas can’t hide in. Put all blankets or whatever the cats/kitten have been in contact with outside. then once you cleared everything out, shampoo the adults first, this way the fleas won’t jump back in the kitten.
I hope this works, GOOD LUCK ON YOUR NEW ARRIVAL AND THE CATS.
You will need to call an exterminator to take care of your carpet ASAP. They lay their eggs and they will hatch later.
Don’t waste your $$ on the store brand stuff–go to your vet or on line and buy the anti-flea medication that your vet recommends. It’s worth the money, trust me. YOu don’t want a flea infested house. You might want to bomb it anyway. (bug bomb, that is)
First off all, take all the animals to the vet and have them dipped, given capstar and then frontline. You house will need to be bombed and anything that can be washed (pillows curtains, sheets) need to be washed in HOT HOT HOT water. Store bought flea stuff is worthless. You need to buy it from the vet. Once the issue is resolved, make sure the cat do not go outside and you should be safe. If they are going to go out you will want to apply frontline monthly to prevent the problem again.
hartz flea drops have been known to seriously damage and even kill cats, so i wouldn’t advise using it.
you need to spray the outside of your house and probably use something on the carpets (with pyrethrins as an ingredient). but you need to keep the kitten and nursing mother away from these products and the sprayed areas for several days to a week or so. read labels.
your adult cats probably need bathed wtih a good flea soap, but i wouldn’t recommend it for the kitten until it’s over 6 weeks old (talk to the vet) or on the nursing mother right now.
you can probably find more information on line if you search for FLEA CONTROL, GETTING RID OF FLEAS.
take care.
The safest and cheapest method of getting rid of fleas is to use a mixture of boric acid and salt. The powder should be sprayed on carpets, bedding and areas frequented by pets. More information on getting rid of fleas is available at http://pests.in/fleas.html
Actually the soap and water should have gotten rid of the fleas on your kitten. You probably have fleas in your home. They make a spray to rid your home of fleas and you will need to use it to get rid of the fleas. Also if you wash your bed clothes as you normally would that will kill the fleas on them. Your vet should have a product called Advantage, which you put on your cats shoulders and there is also a pill that you can give your cats to kill the fleas for 24 hours.
We have 4 dogs and 3 cats. When we had fleas we did the following: Gave all animals the pill to kill the fleas on them immediately, sprayed the house, and used advantage on the animals for a long time cure. Also we put down insecticide on our yard to get rid of fleas in the yard. You would not need to do this if your cat does not go outside.
CAUTION!! – I do not know the effects of the spray or handling of the pills due to your pregnancy. BE SURE to check the labels.
Best of luck.
You have to treat your home and the animals .The kitten is tough because they are not big enough to use chemicals on. They are also very suseptible to flea bite anemia and can even die if they become too infested. IF they are on the animal they are in your home. Fleas oare only on the animal long enough to feed. They spend most of their time in warm dark places (closets, carpets, bedding) breeding.
The best product is Frontline. You get it from your vet and use it on both adults cats. You will also need to treat your home. DO NOT use a bomb. They do not work-the mist just goes up and back down. It does not get under things or in corners. Ask your vet about sprays you can use on your carpet and furniture. All of your curtains and bvedding need to be washed in hot water. Vacuum your house after treating it with a flea coller in the vacuum bag. Throw the bag away immediately. Repeat treating your home in about 2 weeks as any eggs will have hatched by then and a new crop of critters will appear. It takes time to get rid of these critters once they show up. Be patient and vigilant and they will eventually go away.
You need to take it to the vet. Usually they have some kind of special medicine. Or at the store they sell flea medicine too. The other option is to shave you cat. That can also get rid of fleas.
go to the vets and get Advantage flea killer. It is very expensive, but it is one of the few that work! I tried basically everything before i tried Advantage, and i wasted my money.
