I bath my little dog in hearts flea and tic shampoo and least once every 2 weeks.I cant seem to keep her at home and visiting with all the neighborhood dogs. She has a flea collar aslo but because the other dogs are so infested with fleas Lacy keeps them too.Should I groung my dog by putting her on a leash or in a fenced in area or should I volunteer to wash all the neighborhood dogs.

    Dear Beej,
I have had dogs (many breeds) from the age of 5. (now I am 43) . In my experience
there is a anti flea lotion called “ticktox” which is locally available in all Medical shops in India. If you dilute the lotion (as per the instructions pasted on the bottle) and bathe the dog in it and repeat the process a 2 weeks later then I think your problem will be solved. You might have to bathe your dog every two months if it is in frequent contact with neighborhood dogs.Care must be taken to avoid the lotion to get in the dogs eyes. The person who is bathing the dog must also use a mask/wet towel to avoid the fumes of the chemical. PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM NOT A VETERINARIAN . Some dogs I owned had a nasty reaction to the chemical and I have heard that some owners too have had reactions. But the chemical is very effective as far as fleas are concerned. After you bathe the dog you will have to manually check and remove the remaining fleas especially where the chemical has not been applied.Eg. The Ears .Also If you regularly brush the dog twice a day you can control the lice.

Try flea and tick products. The treatment involves dropping a liquid formula between the shoulder blades of your dog. Typically, you repeat the process monthly. Some of them can even help prevent heart worm, ringworm, etc. Look into these products:
    –k-9 advantage
    — revolution
There are other products on the market, but these are the most well known and trusted. You can purchase the drop packets in small increments, like 3-4 months, or longer increments, like 6 months. The product is a little pricey, but it should solve your flea and tick problems. You are weighing the price against your time washing the dog and concern about the fleas.
Ask your vet which product he/she recommends. Sometimes, you may need to have your dog tested for worms, prior to beginning the treatment.
    Good luck!

just give her a capstar (can get from the vet) and then apply a dose of frontline or advantix (also get from the vet).
we use advantix for our dog and we have no issues.

The flea shampoos are virtually worthless. You need to buy “Frontline” or “Advantage.” Costs about 30 bucks for three applications.
They are both an excellent product, and you have to apply it every thirty days.
Throw away those collars – they are HORRIBLE for your animal and do NOT work.

Use Advantage of frontline topical. Do not use the stuff you can get at the drug stores as they has show to be toxic to some dogs and cats. Advantage and frontline go by weight and are non toxic.
