I am moving into a new house in a matter of weeks. With me come my one year old cat. I am worried, though, that the fleas that have been sharing my old apartment with me will be making the move as well.
The person who lived in the apartment before me had a large number of cats, who all brought fleas indoors. He moved out, and I moved in, and all the fleas lying dormant in the carpet hatched and are terrorizing the apartment. Now, I don’t want them following me!
How can I prevent taking the fleas with me when I move into my new home? Thank you.
Give your cat a good shampoo which treats fleas the day before you leave, preferably away from where you live, and then leave the cat with a friend for the day so that the fleas living in your apartment dont jump back on. Also wash all the cats bedding etc before you leave and pack away in the car.
If all things go well your new home should be flee free. Check everything you pack away that it hasnt got any fleas (i.e. linen etc as they like to hide in warm places), if they do wash it and take to the new house before the fleas can jump back in again.

I would make sure your cat has a treatment or 2,
flea bomb your house, and then after you pack your belonging into a UHaul truck
or similar bomb the inside of your truck.
one adult female flea can lay 20-25 eggs a dayand they hatch every 30 days so make sure the bomb will kill flea eggs also.
Get rid of the fleas before you go and you won’t have to worry about taking them with you. Ask your vet for the best way to attack this.
dont take ya cat with yu,get a new one,in or before yu move into new place,spray yuself with fleakiller and then go thru a carwash,perhaps several times.if it doesnt kill the fleas ,it will fix ya up.

There is a product called Capstar made by Excel Pet it is a tablet that you give to your cat, within 30 minutes it kills any fleas on your cat, you could give this to your cat and if possible leave it at a friend or your parents place then get flea bombs from the supermarket at let one off in your house. wash the cats bedding in hot water or cold water and put it in a clothes dryer, the heat of the dryer will kill any eggs, you could also put your linen, curtains etc in the dryer on hot rather than washing everything. once you have moved check the cat for fleas and if you see any give the cat another capstar, these tablets can be given every couple of days when you see fleas. you will break the breeding cycle as the fleas will not get big enough to lay eggs. hope this helps and good luck in your move, hope it is not too stressful.
The biggest way is to make sure your cat is completely flea free before you bring her into your new home. Have it done professionally the first day. Dust and vaccum your furniture, preferably outside before bringing into new home. you may even want to fog the old house ( take cat out first) a day or so before you move. Shake out curtains and such and wash all sheets and blankets or hang on line for a day or so before bringing tehm indoors..
