Get 3 flea bombs at the market and bomb every 2 weeks (Fleas lifecycles are 14 days) to start with. You’ll kill off the adults the first round, the freshly hatched fleas 2 weeks after that and the last round is for “Maintenance”.
If the DIY bombs don’t work, call in an exterminator.
From a store like Wal-Mart, get bug bombs. Raid makes them; they often come in a three-pack. They basically look like a can of spray paint. The idea is to put one in each room of the house with flea-infested carpet, set them off, and then leave the house for about a day. Remember to remove or cover up clothing/pillows/bedding/etc. first…and of course make sure there are no pets in the house either. When you get back to your apartment, open all the windows, and then vacuum (and shampoo again if you’d like) all the carpets. This should do the trick. It’s worked for me in apartments before.

You should be able to go to the office and complain about it and have them foot the bill for getting that apt professionally exterminated for fleas. You can take a white paper towel and put it down on the carpet in each room.The fleas should be attracted to hop on it so your apt. manager can see the extent of the problem. It’s a good way for you to get an idea about it too. The trouble with commercial over the counter sprays is they work for a few weeks and you have to repeat for hatching eggs. It is still not 100 percent.
Boric acid works well–just sprinkle it into your carpet and vacuum it up. If you have deep pile, use a plastic bristled broom to “stomp” it in first. Just remember that you will have to treat and then treat again in 14 days when the flea eggs hatch. If you have any animals, you will have to treat them and then retreat again in 14 days, too.
There are powders and sprays that you can put on your carpet. You can find them at pet stores. Just tell them what you need and they can help you find the one that’s best for you. I wish you well.
The best thing to do is to use foggers, but you need to make sure you buy the one with “growth inhibitors”. They are usually good for up to 3 months. If you use regular foggers, within a week to 10 days, the eggs will be hatching out and you will be reinfested. Best of luck to you!!
A professional exterminator will get rid of them completely in one treatment. its worth the $$
Well first things first. Call the owner they are the ones that are responsible for it. It is a health hazzard and they are responsible for shampooing and cleaning the property before each new tennat arrives. Have them pay for a professional to come out and get rid of them for you. You should not have to pay for their fleas. You could also get some flea bug bombs which you can find at your local pet store or local Target store and save the receipt. They are messy and you have to wash everything in the house when they are done, clena the caprets and vacuum again and make sure not to leave any animals their while the bug bombs are going off. Basically clear out for 24-48 hours. Id mail the receipt to the owner and ask for a rebate for it also. Good Luck.
