First, flea eggs can live for a couple weeks. So you need to stay on top of things.
Fleas are a major pain in the behind. When I was 18, I moved into an apartment and pets were not allowed. Turned out the person below us had been to his brother’s house for a couple days. His brother’s dog had fleas. He brought home his sleeping bag – the eggs hatched and the fleas went crazy.
First vacuum all the rugs and upholstery, uses a flea powder for carpets (I’ve attached a link below.) Shut all the windows in your house. Turn off gas appliances if you have them. Then set off one flea bomb per floor. Air the house out. Vacuum again to suck up any dead fleas. Wash any bedding, pillows, etc. I did curtains too because I hate fleas. My husband had an apartment where the fleas had laid eggs behind some wallpaper that was coming loose, so consider that too.
Keep vacuuming with the flea powder once a week. Two weeks later when any eggs would likely be hatching – flea bomb the house again. That should do it.
Get a dog.
Fleas con come inside from your yard on your shoes and clothing. Best bet is to call an exterminator. This will eliminate live fleas and also eggs. It is well worth the money.
ther is a powder that you can put on the rugs clothes and draipes let is sit then bring out the vacuum
I have had good luck with the flea powder you sprinkle in your carpet and vacuum up later (Sergeant’s) – Flea eggs hatch out later so you may have to treat more than once
Flea Bomb the place.
Go to your local farmers market and get some flea spray, because the stuff you can get at Wal-Mart will not work. You will have to purchase a pump spray and mix it yourself. You want to get what is used on farms. The second flea spray you want to get is formulated for inside the home. IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN THEY NEED TO STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR THE NEXT 48 HOURS AT LEAST. Spray the indoor mixture first and then move to the outside with the outdoor mixture. Spray closest to your house first and move out until you have sprayed your entire yard. The fleas will run as you are doing this. If you have wood floors, make sure that you coat the joints and cracks.
Once all of the spray has dried, go inside the house and wash all clothing and bedspread, also find areas where you have clutter and attempt to remove some of the clutter. You may have to spray additional times, because these pesticides only will kill hatched flees. Any product claiming to kill eggs or make fleas unable to reproduce is lying, the professionals are the only ones allowed to have poison that can do this. I have found that the bug bombs do not work as well as claimed. If you do not want to go through the hassle, hire a professional to come and spray for fleas. It should not cost anymore than a couple hundred dollars.
A final point is that if no one has animals in the area, start looking for rodents or squirrels, because they will carry fleas. Good luck
be safe always read the label from start to finish when applying pesticides.
LYE IS A VERY CAUSTIC CHEMICAL. DON’T USE THAT. THE BEST STUFF I FOUND WAS ADVANTAGE FOR MY CAT. NOT ONLY DOES IT KILL FLEAS, IT KILLS ALL PESTS WITHIN 25 YARDS AROUND AND NO ALLERGIC REACTIONS. GET IT FROM A VET.
Boric acid powder works. Apply to furniture and carpet. If there are no pets, the fleas probably came from squirrels or other wild animals.
